Mission of the Month — The Sock Hop is Back!

The Mission Committee is bringing back the collection of socks for the “Love thy Neighbor” Mission in Spring Hill, Florida for the month of August. We will have a clothes basket in the narthex to collect the socks August 23 to August 30. Socks can be any size, any color. Free will and loose coin offerings will be used to purchase items such as toothpaste, toiletries, food, toilet paper, diapers, etc.

Socks for the sock hopThis is a completely non-profit mission started to reach out to the needed by a couple who owned a cafe. There is no advertising or administration costs. Volunteers and donated storage space are the basis of the operation.

Hernando County is the poorest county in Florida with an estimated 2,000 plus homeless people (which includes children). Many live out of back packs, so small sample size toiletries and healthy individually wrapped snacks work well.

It is the time of year to go through closets and get the kids ready for school, if you have clean, outgrown socks, or buy some extras, “Love Thy Neighbor” has a real need. Will you help?
