Where’s the Chocolate?

The other day I was having afternoon tea (now doesn’t that sound all refined and proper?) and I had the urge for some dark chocolate to go with it.

I didn’t think I had any, but I searched the cupboards anyway.

Maybe, just maybe there would be a forgotten chocolate square wadded up in foil hiding behind a bag of rice.  Come on – there’s got to be something… I thought as I reached for the top shelf.

No luck.

I Had My Tea, Chocolate-less

The next day I was walking through the school halls on my way to class.  I almost passed by the Student Union when I thought, Hey…chocolate.

I took a sharp right and marched up to the sweet darlin’ standing behind the counter.

“Do you have chocolate here?”

There must have been a desperate tone in my voice as she looked a little surprised.  I suppose it’s not every day she gets a crazed, frizzy red-haired, middle aged woman demanding chocolate in the Student Union.

“Well, we have these chocolate muffins and Kit Kat bars and…”

“No, no, no,” I smiled and interrupted.  “I mean chocolate…grown up people’s chocolate.”

I was thinking a nice square of Ghirardelli – but I’d settle for a dark Symphony bar.

“Ummm…we have two Hershey bars left.”

Milk chocolate of course.

Class was going to start in 1 minute.

Milk Chocolate or No Chocolate?

I paid for the Hershey bar and went to class.

Not only does food sustain us, but it can bring us joy and pleasure.

I love to start my day with chai latte.

I love toasted Ezekiel bread with raw honey.

I love afternoon tea and at times, a square of dark chocolate.

And I end my day with Kombucha tea and raw almonds.

These foods and their variety of flavors bring joy to my day.

How about you – what treats do you savor?

So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun. ~Ecclesiastes 8:15
