Ephesians 2: 8-10
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
We were saved to serve. God has saved us and called us to His work. We are saved for work. Being saved means becoming prepared to do the work of God, to Serve the Lord. We all have God-given gifts to serve others. We are healed to be blessing to others. We are personally called and invited to be part of Jesus team to build and fight for the Kingdom of God. Jesus didn’t promise perfection. He said, “take up your cross daily and follow me.”
The path is demanding with high expectations. With Jesus as our quarterback, we are on the winning team. The reward is Jesus saying, despite the hardships, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” 1 Thessalonians 2:19 (NIV) 19 For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you?
We will give our lives for something, what will that be?
